I transitioned out of the army in early of 2011, and in February of 2011, I came up to North Dakota to work the oil fields. The heroes for me are the ones who don’t come home. Looking back on receiving the medal, you get all this attention and you get acknowledged for essentially what was one of the most tragic days of your life. Where we had about 52 Americans, we ended up getting attacked by a fighting force of Taliban fighters of about 300, and in the course of the fight, you know, we ended up losing eight great Americans. I was awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in Afghanistan on October 3, 2009 in Combat Outpost Keating.
